"Clarissa Willis gives 19th-century women's rights advocate Julia Archibald Holmes her due in this children's book charmingly illustrated by Armand Hayes. But don't think Bloomers on Pikes Peak is just for young daughters and granddaughters. This is a treat for the whole family."

Spur Award-winning author
At 19, I was the first woman to scale Grand Peak, which you might recognize as Pikes Peak. Before then, when I was just a girl, I assisted my parents in sheltering those fleeing slavery in our home. We were involved in the Underground Railroad. I always thought that hard work would make anything possible.
Clarissa was honored that her book Bloomers on Pikes Peak was named the finalist in the prestigious WILLA Award for Children's Literature. This award was given by Women Writing the West.
